Guess Who’s Back!
I have been indecisive for a long time now. Now I choose everything I love to do.
I rap, passionately. I’ve been a rapper, and some people are currently trying to convince me to rap again. I have been rapping since my formal years but I have songs on my hard drive dating back to 2010.
I grew tired of it all in 2018. The late nights, spending money I didn’t have, fake networking. I thought I was aging out of being a rapper. I still wanted to do something around the industry. I chose being a writer, I remembered my high school days winning awards for poems and creative story writing. Also my budding business of writing papers in school. I figured I may be able to get paid. I knew the blog era was long gone but I researched on how freelance writers make a living and applied some tips. By the end of that year I was writing for a mid-level Chicago based publication. In 2019, I wrote for a well known PR company.
By 2020, I was burnt out. I was working a full-time “essential” job while part-time freelancing during COVID and I had the nerve to have a girlfriend on top of it all. I said I would take a break from freelance writing, however I never came back, until now.
I am definitely not the same person from 2020. I grew and blossomed in ways I can’t explain. I want to rap now. However I always thought I would have to choose between rapping and writing. It seems like a conflict of interest. What do I look like criticizing my peers like A. A damn hater or B. D- rider . I am neither and do not want to be referred to as such. I may be biased, relationships may get tarnished, other rappers and writers won’t take me seriously. I thought about every scenario but then realized everybody is biased because music is so subjective.
I’m not the type to tell you who’s hot and who’s weak, I can only give my opinion and how valuable is that opinion?
I don’t know the answer to that, I know I can do other types of writing, PR, copy writing etc. However journalism is my favorite especially if I pick the topic, feeds my hunger to research and explore.
I am working on a couple of pieces I plan to get out soon but I wanted to dust of my writing chops and explore Medium. I am reviving my LinkedIn & Upwork profiles as well. Thank for for reading/following I will be in my writing groove soon.
